PTA Information
The Sanislo PTA welcomes you to the 2009-2010 school year! We hope that everyone enjoyed our sunny, sunny summer. The start of a school year is always exciting — seeing familiar, friendly faces and meeting new people. This year we have a few big changes at Sanislo. Our new principal, Ernie Seevers, comes to us from AS (Alternative School) #1 Pinehurst with glowing recommendations. See Recent Posts for some wonderful quotes about Principal Seevers from AS#1 Pinehurst parents.
In addition to Principal Seevers donning the captain’s hat, we have a new first grade teacher, Saadia Ayubi. Yes, Mr. Harkness and Ms. Tsuboi are still at Sanislo; we simply inherited some new first graders over the summer, and Ms. Ayubi joins us as a third teacher for our first graders! We’re sure you have many questions about how this is going to work — see Recent Posts for more details.
We also have a new fourth grade substitute teacher, Marquita Prinzing. Ms. Hunt gave her notice recently so she could take a position teaching kindergarten at another school. If your child was assigned to Ms. Hunt, he/she will now start the year with Ms. Prinzing. Both Ms. Ayubi and Ms. Prinzing come highly recommended. Again, please see Recent Posts for more details. We really have a tight-knit community of dedicated teachers, staff, parents and students and our school, and we’re very excited to welcome Ernie, Saadia and Marquita into the fold!
Speaking of parents, as you know, we play vital roles in our children’s education. Many parents make time to read to their kids, do math games at home or help out with homework, all of which are wonderful ways to help their young minds develop. Another way you can help your child tremendously is by getting directly involved at school. Your involvement in and support of the Sanislo PTA is one of the best investments you can make in your child’s education. In addition to helping fulfill the day-to-day needs of our school, Sanislo PTA also helps to foster, develop, and support many of the extraordinary programs and activities that make Sanislo a truly exceptional educational experience. The PTA is responsible for funding field trips, buses, and staffing shortfalls due to state budget cuts. We also support after-school clubs, art walks and family fun nights at Sanislo, and our multi-ethnic potluck dinner.
We parents make this stuff happen through fund raising and volunteering time. There are many opportunities to get involved at Sanislo, whether you can just spare an afternoon once or twice a year as a field trip chaperone, or a weekly stint as a classroom assistant. We hope that you will be able to join our community and help build a more enriching and supportive environment for our children! PTA meetings are the third Tuesday of every month, and our first meeting is on Tuesday, Sept. 15th at 6:30 pm in the school library. Childcare is provided, and everyone is welcome! Come find out how you can make a positive difference in the school, meet your PTA volunteer leaders and other Sanislo families, and be in the loop on what is going on in the school community at Sanislo and beyond!
