Support Sanislo

st Grade: On December 17, the 1st grade classes will be going to the Woodland Park Zoo as a culminating activity in finishing a unit on Weather. The Field Trip will focus on how animals adapt to different weather and environments. In January we will begin a new Science unit on Balls and Ramps. The new unit in Math will focus on measuring, reviewing telling time and introducing and practicing addition facts.

nd grade: The Balancing and Weighing Science Kits have finally arrived and we have begun! Our classes are very excited to learn about fulcrums, points of balance, equal arm balances, and beam balances. In math, we will be working on money and geometry. In January, we have two field trips — Alice in Wonderland at Garfield High and Wiley and the Hairy Man at the Northwest Puppet Theater.

th grade: Is finishing an extensive scientific investigation around food science, applying their addition and subtraction skills to decimals, and writing great works about their personal expertise and things for which they are thankful.

th Grade: Over 5 million students participated in the 2008 National Student parent mock election, and Sanislo fifth graders were among them! It was all a part of our Elections unit. Now that we know a little about the Presidents who have sat in the Oval Office, and our Civic-Responsibility to vote, fifth graders will travel back in time to meet the people, and relive the events that shaped our government in our study of the American Revolution. Division comes to the forefront in math class with fractions, decimals and percents on the near horizon, and in science the mud will continue to flow through our stream tables as we carry on with our study of erosion in our Land and Water unit. We attended a Holiday Jazz concert on Thursday, December 4th, at Roosevelt High School. Our students are excited about the opportunity to watch older students perform as an orchestra. Also, 5th grade is continuing to work on the American Revolutionary War as part of our study of American History, and our next unit in Math involves the exploration of Fractions, Decimals, and Percents. We are also wrapping up our engaging science unit on Land and Water, and look forward to exploring Microworlds starting in January.
