Jog-A-Thon
It’s almost time for the 13th Annual Jog-A-Thon fundraiser on Thursday, May 24th. This is a high energy and fun event at which our students, staff and parent volunteers...
Hiring Update: We are currently in the process of hiring new staff for next year. We’ll be hiring an intermediate teacher to replace Sherry Wicklund (who is retiring at the end of the year) and an Instructional Assist to replace Marcy Dotson, who retired this week. Last week we interviewed two candidates for the intermediate position, but the team decided to re-open the position in order to see more candidates. Interviews conclude April 30 and a final decision will be made. The hiring team includes Susan Lichtenberg, Mary Lou Larson, Shannon Crowley, John Apostol, Karli Hunt, and parent Katie Zang. I thank all of them for their time spent on this. Hiring for the Instructional Assistant will occur sometime in May.
Last “One Book Project” Event: This Sunday, April 27 at 1:30 and 3:00. Join Maryann Horsley and our community for kitemaking in the library!
Field Day Help: Field Day is coming up on June 13. If you’re interested and able to assist Mr. Bonow with planning this fun event, please let him know!
Chess: Next year some of our 2nd and 3rd graders will be exposed to chess thanks to the First Move chess curriculum. With the help of grant money, Seattle Public Schools has made the program available to those that wish to participate and you’ll hear more about it next year!
Camp Orkila Trip a Success! Thank you from the 4th graders and their parents to the entire Sanislo community. Your support of the fundraising enabled the 4th grade class to experience three days at Camp Orkila on Orcas Island. They weathered wind, hail, rain, and even snow as they learned about ecosystems, shelter building, and team building, to name a few. A memorable experience was had by all! Thank you for helping us reach our goal and continuing this 4th grade tradition.
What a fun Family Dance Night last Thursday! We had excellent turnout and everyone had a great time. Thank you to all the volunteers that made it possible, particularly Crystal Fosnaugh for putting the music together and Mr. Bonow for setting up the lights and fog machine.

I am sort of a Sanislo Alumni; I “graduated” from sanislo about three years ago, so that makes me now an eighth grader. I have just been recently notified that the famous, legendary Ms. Wicklund is going to retire?! I think, as a student and as part of a board meeting, we should have the staff’s e-mails on this web page in order to contact them individually =] If that wouldn’t be much trouble, of course! I can’t believe Ms. Wicklund is retiring!!!
I think that you are absolutely right. At the moment this is just the website for the PTA, but over the summer I hope to add all sorts of school content to it, even a homework pass through, so parents can monitor their children’s progress online. I’ll see about getting that staff page up sooner though. Ms. Wicklund’s email is sjwicklund[at]seattleschools.org
